[JOB] Sr Linux System Administrator - Waltham, MA



I am looking for a Sr Linux System Admin for our Waltham office.  Please

real estate through a network of highly targeted websites and a marketplace
for premium domain names.  A few of our business units are BuyDomains.com
(domain sales), Afternic.com (domain auctions), SmartName.com (domain
parking), Geek.com, Tarot.com, Photo.net/Photography.com.  NameMedia
currently owns around 1 million domain names, and hosts over 3 million
(including our affiliates).

Required Skills
?    Strong interpersonal and communications skills; capable of writing
proposals or papers, acting as a vendor liaison, making presentations to
customers or client audiences or professional peers, and working closely
with upper management.
?    Ability to solve problems quickly and automate processes.
?    A solid understanding of an operating system; understands paging and
swapping, inter-process communications, devices and what device drivers do,
filesystem concepts (inode, clustering, logical partitions), can use
performance analysis to tune systems. Prefer RedHat/CentOS/Fedora Linux
experience.
?    A solid understanding of networking/distributed computing environment
concepts; understands principles of routing, client/server programming, the
design of consistent network-wide filesystem layouts.
?    Understanding of network based load balancers and Firewalls
(Foundry-Brocade/Cisco specific experience a plus)
?    Ability to troubleshoot a problem from all levels of 7 layer OSI model
to find the problem and find a solution
?    Understanding of VPN technology
?    Ability to program in an administrative language (Perl, PHP, Python,
Ruby, Bash), Knowledge of Java a plus.
?    Be part of a 24x7 on-call pager rotation.

Required Background
?    More than five years of previous system administration experience.

Desirable Background and Skills
?    A degree in computer science or a related field.
?    Extensive programming background in any applicable language.
?    Publications within the field of system administration.
?    Understanding of databases (MySQL and SQL Server)
?    Knowledge of the following a plus:
    - Application Servers: Sun GlassFish, Tomcat, Resin, JBoss
    - Web servers: Apache, Nginx, Tinyhttpd
    - Automation tools such as Cobbler & Puppet

Appropriate Responsibilities
?    Designs/implements complex local and wide-area networks of machines.
?    Manages a large, complex site or network.
?    Works under general direction from senior management.
?    Establishes/recommends policies on system use and services.
?    Provides technical lead and/or supervises system administrators, system
programmers, or others of equivalent seniority.
?    Has responsibility for purchase justification.
