Follow the money.

Apple is, right now, one of the largest banks in the world in all but
name. You think not? Two words: Apple Pay. This whole thing has been a
dog and pony show staged by Apple in order to promote the security of
their systems in order to boost confidence in Apple Pay.

Whether or not that backfired given the apparent ease that security was
broken remains to be seen.
