[Discuss] why don't web hosts scan their sites?

This. Why give something away when you can charge a subscription fee?

Thing is, if a customer signs a contract permitting the provider to also 
be the sysadmin? That changes everything. Now the provider has 
permission to scan and fix things. And to report activities to the 
appropriate authorities.

You get what you pay for. :)
