TUSK, the Tufts University Sciences Knowledgbase, is a comprehensive open source educational system serving health sciences graduate education. As part of the USAID funded REPOND project in conjunction with the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, the Office of Technology for Learning in the Health Sciences, TLHS, which produces TUSK is helping universities to respond to emerging pandemic threat. TLHS has many service agreements to assist in the installation and training of TUSK which brings occasional foreign travel.
The System Administrator will work with the Senior System Administrator, SSA, to support the TUSK application and staff in regard to building and maintaining TUSK servers. Working with the SSA, the System Administrator job includes:

  *   Building and maintaining the TUSK servers in a manner consistent with the application;
  *   Planning and making recommendations for future hardware and space needs;
  *   Designing and implementing a disaster recovery plan;
  *   Troubleshooting system problems
  *   Maintaining and improving the current server infrastructure;
  *   Working with the development staff to keep software versions current;
  *   Occasionally installing and maintaining TUSK systems at our partner schools;
  *   Understanding the TUSK application and considering the developers and other TUSK staff as his/her clients by consulting and providing documentation on all systems;
  *   Working with other Tufts departments including UIT and its divisions, as appropriate.
  *   Other tasks as required by the SSA or the Director.



Basic Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of two years directly related Lixux admin experience or five years Linux admin experience, including, familiarity with RHEL, CentOS, and Ubuntu. Experience in the following areas: installation, configuration, tuning, security, backup and recovery. Demonstrated experience with programming and scripting languages, especially Perl. Experience with open-source services, especially MySQL, Apache, and virtualization with KVM. A technical background in a multi-platform, multi-protocol production environment. Excellent problem resolution, analytical and, verbal and written communication skills especially creating and maintaining documentation. The ability to lift servers of approximately 20 lbs and the ability to stand, walk, carry and push heavy server equipment with or without accommodation.
Preferred requirements: Experience in database Administration and experience with Puppet or Chef
Special Work Schedule Requirements:
May be asked to perform occasional server maintenance, upgrades, and problems during non-business hours typically between 12am and 6am.
