One thing to try is open up the error console (under the Tools menu) and
look if a poorly coded site is perpetually trying to do something that
is failing. I see this pretty often. If you do, NoScript can mitigate
the impact by only allowing scripts to run on a small subset of sites.

The other thing to check is Flash. If you have a vintage of FF that
still uses a separate process for Flash, you can find and kill that.
