Has anyone tried out sonos?

Hello:

I was wondering if anyone had tried this system for streaming music
through their house.  Looks like the idea is to drop a few hundred
dollars per room you want music in for a sonos player, one such device
connected to the internet, the rest chatting via wireless.  There are
controllers for Android, iPhone, iPad that look neat (go into party
mode, turn off tunes in kids room).

Alternatively, has anyone done a similar thing using all open source tools?
