If "community relations" and "good will" mean you permit others to use your
proprietary technology, without a fight, to profit for themselves, with
total disrespect for any boundaries of any kind ... then ...

Well, I guess this is a rhetorical response.  Because there is no "then..."
The point is in the conditional.  It's ridiculous to expect anybody, *any*
body to have "good will" under those conditions.
