What the ... ???

No. You install Google Apps Sync for Outlook onto a computer that has
Outlook. And then you enter your google apps username & password. And then
all your google mail, contacts, calendar get synced to Outlook, as if you
were connecting to an exchange server. Although it's not as fully featured
or reliable as an *actual* exchange server, it is certainly featured-enough
and reliable-enough to use it on a daily basis for all your email etc. It's
just what you do if you are stuck using google apps and wish you had
exchange. (That's me.)
