Advice on new system for Linux

Basically, it appears that your system should work on Linux out of the
box. The only issue I see is the NVdia Geforce. Most distros do have
support (such as RPMFusion for Fedora). Maybe someone else can review
this.
WRT: 64-bit - generally everything is supported in 64-bit. If you want
an adobe flash plugin, you will have to download the 64bit version from
Adobe or install EasyLife.

WRT: Windows XP: Unless you are an extreme gamer (which you say you are
not) then I do recommend that you run Windows XP in a virtual machine,
either Virtualbox or QEMU/KVM. I am assuming that your BIOS can enable
virtual support, but that is not really necessary. All 64bit x86 CPU
chips support 32-bit operating systems. If you want to dual boot then
Windows XP should work fine dual booting With Linux. One of the nice
things about virtualization is that you can allocate 1 or more CPUs
directly to the virtual machine.
BTW: in a strict sense the x86_64 chips do not simulate the 32-bit mode.
They actually contain the 32-bit hardware registers.
