Some Android questions

i am really enjoying Nokia N900 myself. Not only it Linux but it is
Debian based so the apt-fu that i have learned with Ubuntu and Debian
Alpha is applicable, and cross compile and deploy will be simple if i
care to. Root is one apt-install away, supported. The recent
Maemo-Moblin merger meams it's got more future upside than feared.
Downside is only available unlocked off subsidy contract but Tmobile
has nice discount for non subsidy now and offers payment plan if
needed.

That said, i fully expect my daughter to get an Android G1.
