Linux, what are our objectives?

If we were just talking about $40 I *might* be able to justify that
(things are a bit tight right now).  But as far as I can tell this
machine is running DDR-333, and the cost is about double.  The eventual
goal is to just upgrade the machine itself, as soon as more money
becomes available.
