I had a similar situation a few weeks back where my power was rudely 
interrupted.  When the machine was brought back up, the second element 
in each RAID1 array was offline.  Adding/resynching was quick, easy, and 
it worked.  I don't know why it dropped, but yours doesn't seem to be an 
isolated incident.
