I ran into that years ago and reconfigured my browsers to view PDFs 
external to the browser. Then when Foxit Reader[1] became available, I 
switched to that. It's far less resource intensive, and doesn't have all 
the intrusive features that the Adobe reader has. 

Now uninstalling Acrobat and replacing it with Foxit Reader is standard 
procedure whenever I set up a Windows box.
