Ben's info on RCN aside (I know even less about RCN than I do about 
Verizon), I believe the supposition "almost every major city" would more 
accurately be "almost every major city on the east coast", as Verizon 
certainly doesn't have exclusive last mile rights, or even much at all, 
if any, on the west coast (and possibly other regions of the country).
