Thanks for all the suggestions guys!  Ummm yeah, I just went ahead and 
purchased a firewire cable for $3.99 from newegg.  The math worked out 
better on that than dedicating my personal time to a USB driver or 
manufacturer public lambasting :-)  Regards...
