Ubuntu upstart init daemon

I've played with Ubuntu 7.10 yesterday for the first time and noticed that
they have replaced Systen V init scripts system with their own init system -
Upstart <http://upstart.ubuntu.com/>

I really liked this idea because it allows to specify additional actions
based on events which happened during stop/start.

Ubuntu site also saying that they are planning to replace traditional crond
daemon with Upstart, which will make cron much smarter.

Have anyone heard if other Linux vendors are planning to follow this route ?
