this is interesting question. I think the "deciding which application I want 
to use" 
is the part that took most of time. Then, another part that will consume 
much 
time is "finding the correct package/library/codec". Especially when you 
don't 
broadband Internet luxury. 

I think, installing base system will take an hour or even less. I used 
kickstart file and it save my time a lot when installing 30 PCs.
