 In most cases, problems associated with the stream of video coming from your 
card are associated with the IVTV firmware you use. See if you can find an 
associated bug, or just see if you can upgrade the firmware package itself, 
which is installed to your computer. To do a simple test of the card itself, 
shut down all MythTV software and run: 

# mplayer /dev/video (or whatever device name your current card's input is) 

See if you notice the same thing when playing a direct stream from mplayer 
(try VLC too). You should even be able to control the card's tuner to tune 
to a good channel to test on (forget the name of the CLI application to do 
this). All in all, I had quite a few issues on Ubuntu that went away when I 
updated my ivtv-firmware package.
