1) I prefer to run the same distro on my server and my laptop so I only 
need to keep current on one distro's problems ;) 

2) Since I run MythTV on my server, I sometimes need certain libs and 
commands to be cutting edge. 

Oh, and Mark, this is a Intel Core 2 Duo processor (I think E6750?). 
With the jump I just made in processors (from AMD XP2400+ single core), 
getting things working with fewer hassles is worth more to me than a 
slight performance gain. 

I cut a Kubuntu CD about an hour ago, and I'll install that on my server 
after it's too dark to work on my Halloween installation. 


Thanks so much for everyone's advice.  As a non-SysAdmin, it's worth a 
lot to me to be able to bounce ideas off you all.
