I was worried about that.  My _modus operandi_ is to just leave a 
window open with root access.  (If someone I don't trust breaks into 
my home, I have worse problems than what he or she might do with root 
access to my computers.)  So in ubuntu, I just open a window and say 
"sudo -i", and give it my password.
