Try using a different "video-out" option for mplayer ('sdl' is a usually a
safe option, but you can also try 'x11' or 'gl').  Looks liker you're
currently using the 'xv' driver (run "mplayer -vo help" to get a list of drivers).

If you find one that works, you can put it as an option in your
~/.mplayer/config file:
 vo=sdl
 ao=alsa
