Telco switches to Ubuntu from RHEL for one reason...

Usually that is the difference between people who futz with Linux and/or have 
lots of time to compile and address issues and those who need a system that 
can install things quickly and reproduce builds quickly and without issue.

Gentoo is fine for the first, but not for the second.
