Our company creates software for chip designers and is considered an

Job Qualifications 

Do you run Linux and Windows on your home or work systems?  Do you
already have Feisty Fawn running on a laptop?  Have you begun blogging
about the strengths and weaknesses of Feisty Fawn versus Vista versus
Red Hat Enterprise 5? And yet do you realize that the objective of these
computing systems is to help human beings get things done? Can you
comfortably translate "techno-speak" into laymen's terms because you
enjoy it?  Are you torn between an excellent conversation and trying out
a new operating system?

 

Mentor Graphics is seeking an unusual system administrator that enjoys
technological challenges and is ready to work with a world class sales
force that is also highly technical.  Our computing environment is
diverse because the customer base that Mentor sells to is diverse.
While we seek to standardize processes, we don't seek to standardize
people.

Candidate should have a BS in Computer Science, Business, Engineering
(or equivalent) or 5 - 10 years directly related experience
demonstrating excellent communication (verbal and written) and
interpersonal skills. Scripting experience, and Active Directory
administration skills are a plus. Must have a drive to learn new
technologies and try new things. Must be able to work as part of a high
performance team, and independently as well, with good organization and
time management skills, high energy/motivation and be committed to
providing excellent customer service. Must be able to demonstrate a
systematic approach to troubleshooting, with an understanding of "root
cause" analysis. Bring on your new ideas and willingness to work with a
great hardworking team. We encourage ambition and curiosity.

Job Duties 

This individual will work as a member of the IT Enterprise Client
Systems team and provide computing support for 6 sales offices up and
down the East Coast of the United States and 2 sites in Eastern Canada.
They should anticipate traveling roughly 25% of the time with potential
spikes above this if a project warrants it. The job will include lifting
computing equipment when required for building systems and working in
field site telecom/computing hub rooms.  Specific tasks include:
Hardware installation and configuration; operating system and
application software installation and upgrades as required in support of
customer base; monitoring system performance; system security, physical
and logical, in compliance with the corporate Information Security
policies; assisting Mentor Graphics employees with troubleshooting
problems and in clarifying the true nature of problems with system vs.
application vs. network; network troubleshooting; direct interaction
with IT customers at all levels.
