mp-bios bug 8254 timer not connected

hi all. i get this error message at boot. i've had it before on my
computer and turned off apic somehow and the problem went away. that
was ~6 months ago and of course i've forgotten what the heck i did.
anyway, i'm playing around with fedora 6 on the same computer and have
tried all the magical incantations but nothing seems to work.
pci=noapic, noapic, noapic nolapic, noacpi noapic, noacpi noapci
nolapic, acpi=off... anybody else in a similar situation and what did
you do? thanks, eric c.
