[Job] Linux Administration; Bedford & Billerica area



  I am currently looking for Linux Administrators who are interested in working contract or contract to perm opportunities in the Boston Metro area.  My focus day in and day out is infrastructure related projects in the Boston Metro Area.  I am working with several high profile clients who are aggressively looking to hire Systems Administrators on a project or contract to hire basis.

  Maynard/Billerica; contract possible to end of year; $50 a hour W2
  Requirements: 
BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience. 
5+ years of Linux preferably in an e-commerce hosted environment (they use Redhat & Fedora)
Programming/shell scripting exp (perl is a plus) 
Excellent verbal and written skills with outstanding customer service 


Job Responsibilities:
Ensure 24x7 operation of hosted environment (occasional eve/weekend hrs)
? Shell Scripting, push new code out via scripts, coordinate with developers for application configuration changes. 
Configure system and network parameters 
? Monitor system stability and performance 
? Troubleshoot and fix hardware, software and networking problems as they occur 
? Help develop tools to monitor and maintain systems 
? Rapidly scale systems to meet demand 
? Write comprehensive documentation

  Bedford, MA; Contract to Perm;  100-110K perm
  Be able to lead projects that require Linux Administrators in terms of broad technical knowledge and project management.  Create processes to maintain all Linux and VMWare environments (VMWARE IS a bonus, but they will consider resumes without it).  Identify and implement system and application enhancements to prevent outages, with a goal of 100% uptime.  
   
  Share 24x7 on call responsibility and off-hour support with Linux Administrators.  Act quickly and decisively with regards to any escalated challenges the teams may have.  Participate in developing overall technology strategy and infrastructure planning.  Responsible for supporting new client implementation, conversions and product enhancement projects including project management and prioritization, resource allocation, mentoring and training team members, performance management/feedback, budgeting, and decision making.

    Project-based Work (70%)
   
  ?         Participate in architecture design and planning activities; develop measurements to meet the goals for maximum uptime, ease of scalability, and application/database efficiency.
  ?         Establish appropriate milestones and estimate timelines for new projects and implementations based on system and application design.
  ?         Represent the Linux team in assessing the feasibilities of upcoming platform enhancement proposals and providing operational analysis prior to internal sign-off.
  ?         Lead the team in upgrades and patch installations of OS, Cluster, and Storage.
  ?         Lead the team to establish performance/capacity monitoring process and benchmark statistics to identify potential issues and to address them proactively.
  ?         Lead troubleshooting efforts; maintain statistics and knowledge base to avoid repetitive issues.
  ?         Create processes to monitor applications for maximum availability and performance.
   
  Administration (30%)
  ?         Document, update, and track methods of procedure and standard operation procedures within the Linux environments and ensure their compliance to policies.
  ?         Perform OS upgrades and patch installation as required.
  ?         Share 24x7 oncall responsibility
  ?         Perform required routine tasks to maintain the systems.
  ?         Additional responsibilities and duties as assigned.
   
  Specialized Knowledge, Skills or Applications:
   
           
  ?         Redhat LINUX Enterprise class (WS/ES/AS) required.
  ?         LINUX High Availability Cluster required.
  ?         Virtual machine technology required. (VMWare ESX and Virtual Center preferred)
  ?         Knowledge of Oracle and Sybase RDBMS preferred
  ?         EMC Clariion experience preferred.
  ?         Proficient with desktop applications (Visio, MS Word, Excel) a plus.
   
  Equipment: 
   
          ?         Sun/Client/IBM LINUX High- and mid-level servers and blades.
  ?         Client UX OS and Systems.
  ?         EMC Symmetrix and DMX technology.
  ?         Ability to maintain rack mounted hardware
  ?         Ability to drive to the backup site
  ?         Ability to act quickly and decisively under pressure and escalate critical issues per escalation process and procedure
  Ability to change focus and change direction as business needs change
