multicast tv/video

I am looking to set up a streaming tv server. I currently use netcat
to stream /dev/video on my server to a single mplayer client.
However, I would like multiple clients to access the same video
stream. My understanding is that ip multicast will do this for me.
There is an old utility called emcast that is somewhat of a multicast
netcat but it has not been updated in several years. i.e. It does
not compile on FC5/6. Is there a better replacement for it? Anyone
using multicast for video in their home?
