Trouble uplinking a cisco catalyst 2960 to a 3600

I'm trying to install a Cisco Catalyst 2960 switch into my network, and
I'm having no luck getting it to work. I already have a Catalyst 3600
switch in place that has only 2 ports unused, and I'm trying to uplink
the 2960 through one of the ports. What am I missing?

Both switches can do VLAN to support multiple submets, and the exsiting
3600 already splits out the network into several subnets. The new switch
is basically just to add new ports; I want to be able to configure each
port on it for any of the subnets, and have it work transparently.

I used the web admin interface to configure the 2960; I went through the
express setup, assigned it an address of 10.1.4.3, and then after it
rebooted, I connected port 48 on the 2960 to port 18 on the 3600 and
changed the port type in the web admin from "Desktop" to "Cisco Switch".

The settings that resulted were as follows:

    interface FastEthernet0/48
     switchport mode trunk
     macro description cisco-switch
     auto qos voip trust
     spanning-tree link-type point-to-point

I had set up the port on the 3600 as follows:

    interface FastEthernet0/18
     description Catalyst 48-port switch
     switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
     switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,2,4,8,12,1002-1005
     switchport mode trunk
     no cdp enable

which match the settings of the port the internal router is on,
plus add in the rest of the vlan's.

Attached is the current config of the 2960, with a laptop plugged
into port 1 and port 48 plugged into the 3600. I x'ed out the
passwords, of course.
