Actually some laptops, such as the Dell Inspiron 8000 series, have a
special "S-video" port.  A dongle breaks this out into separate S-video,
composite video, and coaxial digital audio connections.  But it's
possible to plug an S-video cable from this port directly to a monitor
or TV (still just video).
