Forcing cleanup code in shell scripts?

Books are a lot cheaper. There are several good shell programming books, 
such as "Learning the BASH shell", Unix Shell Programming" and many others. 
The current flock of modern shells like BASH and Korn are very 
sophisticated, but also relatively easy to use for small tasks. (If you 
want to do serious scripting work, then Perl or Python is better suited.
