External Monitor on laptop

For the most part, I would think that your grub would be configured for
the lower common denominator. Grub boots its stage1 (from the boot
sector) and its stage2 from /boot/grub/stage2. It should not care what
monitor you have. 

Maybe your better alternative is to boot up the laptop, plug in the
monitor, and then configure the boot loader using the Fedora tools. (I
am somewhat unfamiliar here since I use SuSE, SLES and RHEL.
