Geek as in, we, as a whole, derive some pleasure in working on computers.
Which, for all intents in purposes, is not the societal norm. See
Neophilia and the Hacker's Mindset.

I call it M*A*S*H syndrome, derived from the old SitCom. If one's skills
are sufficiently in demand, one can wear a bathrobe to work, and
generally have one's eccentricities tolerated.
