Linux job opening at Cambridge



ITA Software, located at Kendall Square, Cambridge, has an opening for
a Linux Support Engineer.

Linux Support Engineer
The Linux Support Engineer, under the guidance of the Director of
Technology, develops, configures, and maintains the ITA Software
infrastructure and supports many of our critical internal services.

Primary Responsibilities include:

    * Supporting all Linux server-class desktops and laptops through
O/S installs, upgrades, and repairs.
    * Performing all Linux account maintenance including account
creation, deletion, and password policy enforcement.
    * Assuming responsibility for the internal operational ticket
queue. This entails providing technical support for ITA employees and
reassigning tickets to others in Operations as necessary to handle the
requests.
    * Assisting with management of the company's DNS and DHCP infrastructures.
    * Maintaining backups of user data by following data management
procedures and policies to ensure data reliability and support the
company's data retention needs.
    * Restoring user data as needed for recovery or audit of the backup process.
    * Assisting Operations staff with building and deploying servers
for hosting purposes.
    * Other operational tasks as needed.


Job Requirements:

    * Accomplished with a minimum of 2 years of professional
experience supporting Linux on Intel-based hardware.
    * Knowledgeable of TCP/IP networking principals.
    * Minimum of one year of experience with DHCP and Bind.
    * Skilled in diagnosing and correcting hardware and software
configuration problems and defective equipment.
    * Experienced with major hardware components, including memory
configuration, RAID configurations, and backup systems.
    * Able to demonstrate effective communication skills and interact
professionally with a diverse group of employees.
    * Able to handle constantly changing priorities.
    * Must be effective at managing his/her own time with minimal supervision.
    * Organized and process oriented, disciplined and reliable.
    * Motivated to learn new technologies quickly and eager to work in
a fast-paced, team environment.
    * Must have reliable transportation.
