samba's swat

Currently, I am having trouble with SAMBA and using it to authenticate to the linuxserver. IT may have to do with the fact that my windows client os is running on server2003. I am also having a problem with samba's SWAT I don't know what the problem is --i can see inetd.conf but I can't open it---so I am entertaining many theories. My guess is that it is a permissions / user issue. I may have to create and switch to a samba user to open the conf file? It appears I am running Samba 2.2
