complicated x over ssh question

I believe that so long as the remote system does not have anything in
the startup environment (.profile, .bash*, etc) that explicitly sets the
DISPLAY variable, it should be set by ssh automagically.

For instance, if I do the following:

ssh -X user at remotemachine

And the remote system has the X forwarding set up, then by default my
display would be set to :10 which is a forwarded X connection.
