Samba, anyone?

HI,

I am a newbie. I am trying to authenticate to linux from a windows box. I am assuming Samba challenges me for user name and Id. My user name suddenly has the the machine name appended to it In this case, Poulenc/ root. or Poulenc/ notes Do I need to create a user in RedHat with one of these names? or is Samba looking elsewhere for user id and pasword? Any help would be much appreciated.

Part 2: The challenge question: whoami ? On the windows box I am Kathleen lynch/SCI going into the linux box and and Domino/Notes. I am assuming it is Samba who is challenging me as both machines are in MyGroup. However, for all I know it could be RedHat or Domino challenging me. How does one know?
