Guys/Gals
I installed latest gentoo release (2.4.25-gentoo-r3) on my Sony Desktop. Then went ahead and recompiled the kernel with apm support in it. Here is what it has:

#grep -i apm /proc/config
CONFIG_APM=y
CONFIG_APM_IGNORE_USER_SUSPEND=y
CONFIG_APM_DO_ENABLE=y
CONFIG_APM_CPU_IDLE=y
CONFIG_APM_DISPLAY_BLANK=y
CONFIG_APM_RTC_IS_GMT=y
CONFIG_APM_ALLOW_INTS=y
CONFIG_APM_REAL_MODE_POWER_OFF=y
So, all options are turned on.
However, an 'init 0' or 'shutdown now' or 'poweroff' doesn't turn the box off. It shuts the machine down normally but no poweroff.
Any other params I need to enable in the kernel?

Earlier installation of Windows XP and Xandros on the same box would indeed turn off the power so BIOS is probably set correctly. What else might be missing?
