Hi,

I have a trusty old HP Pavilion running VA-enhanced RH Linux 6.2. The box is
on my home network at my house in Roslindale which is currently rented out.
I've recently installed apt-get on the machine and updated most of the
packages, but not the kernel. I run smtp, pop, dns, http and some other
services on this machine which I mainly administer remotely from my home
here in westchester county, NY.

There are bunch of things I want to do with the machine but I'm afraid I'll
hose it in the process.

I need a supremely skilled BOFH to help me do the following:

1) backup and setup an ongoing backup scheme for the things I really care
about like /home and /var/mail ... and whatever else you recommend.
2)
install a newer version of linux including a newer kernel
3) streamline the set of services I want/need: imap, ldap, WebDAV...
4) get ImageMagick installed so I can install gallery...
5) set up SE and Orcallator for monitoring and, perhaps, ethereal...
6) anything else you recommend.. (like, help me fully grokk IPCHAINS)...

I'm hoping I can learn a lot in the process.. I will be a good student, take
copious notes, etc...

This could be a fun and rewarding extracurricular gig for the right person.
We can negotiate an hourly rate or a project rate...

Thanks!
