On my Dell, I recently installed a ide DVD (+/-)RW unit. I had
another CDrom on the same bus and both units were set to cable-select
master/slave
detection. The darn thing(s) just wouldn't work. After I forced the units to
master and slave, the units posted up properly to the bios and my i/o problems
disappeared. I also had to put statement like hda=ide-scsi in
the kernel boot params and now the units work just fine.
