How to find 3 OS parameters

Hello,

Is there a generic way of finding out certain system attributes for a linux OS:
1) number of processes
2) number of threads
3) number of simultaneous open files

I'd like to find these values on modern versions(>7) of Suse and on
Redhat. I'm running into limitations on
some DBMS benchmarks.
