Broken R H 7.3, Rescue ?

Hello
I broken my Laptop (RH 7.3), and don't know how...
Dual Boot machine, RH will not complete boot (but Windoze boots ok).
try to boot and init runs to "starting wine" which to me is about end of boot sequence. Then I expect Red Hat Icon (splash screen?)
but appears to hang before seeing Icon...

then sits there and periodically flashes
some micro message on LCD such as 'Red Hat 7.3 installed'
for about click of finger (50 millisecs.)

Tried "Linux Rescue with CD disk #1 ...
Can get access to rescue shell and ran "fsck -p /dev/hda2" also
ran "fsck -p /dev/hda3"
which returns without any msg or error (?)

Note partitions <IIRCC>:
/dev/hda1 = Windoze,
/dev/hda2 = Linux -2 gig,
/dev/hda3 = Swap,
end of disk, 7 meg undefined ?

Ran "badblocks /dev/hda2" at shell but returned after 5 minutes
without indication or error (?)

What else can I do, short of reinstall and losing data?

Comments, advice welcomed ...

Karina
