# Ideally 4+ years of Linux admin experience. Unix admin experience (as
opposed to Linux) is okay but some prior Linux admin experience is
required.
# Demonstrated experience administrating load balanced and/or high
availability (Linux Virtual Server) Linux systems or Linux clusters.
Please describe.
# Must have a passion for security. Must be expert in analyzing networks
for vulnerabilities, securing systems, creating/configuring firewalls
(iptables), intrusion detection systems (snort, tripwire), configuring
Apache/PHP/MySQL/other services, building/configuring Red Hat servers.
Waking up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat about the latest
OpenSSH remote root exploit a plus.
# Must be an expert in Linux system administration - shell scripting,
Perl/Python, RPM, patching/configuring Linux kernels (2.4.xx),
identifying and updating out of date packages, etc. Must also have the
maturity to know when NOT to upgrade or install the most bleeding edge
version of (whatever) and why.
# Demonstrated experience tuning Apache, PHP, MySQL for optimum
performance (hundreds of concurrent connections).
# Experience with server/network monitoring systems (Netsaint/Nagios/etc)
a big plus.
# Experience tuning SQL queries, tables, indexes, etc. for speed a big plus.
# Web development experience with PHP, Perl, and/or Python a big plus.
Will occasionally be responsible for creating web-based
configuration/admin pages and metrics/statistics pages for use by
non-technical users.
# Experience testing networks/servers for performance and identifying
bottlenecks required.
# Responsible for upkeep, availability, and monitoring of Red Hat-based
server farm serving over 40 million daily impressions; maintenance of
existing servers/networking equipment and installation/configuration of
new servers
# Must possess excellent communication skills and ability to interact and
work closely with both developers and non-technical users.
