The World (Located in Collidge Corner with national dialup
service:http://www.theworld.com) is a public access Unix system, and are
the oldest ISP in the country. They charge $9.89/Mo for their cheapest
service. I've found that their support people tend to be somewhat
knowledgable in comparison to ISPs like Comcast who hire some type of
non-human primate. I personally maintain both an account at TheWorld as
well as Comcast.
I've never had any trouble with Linux on Comcast.
