I receive my mail from a co-located server and use fetchmail over an
ssh tunnel to bring it into my mail server at home. My home mailserver
uses a second ssh tunnel to relay outbound mail through the co-located
server.

My home mailserver runs Redhat8. I use the supplied imapd (recompiled
to use pine's "mail" directory instead of the user's home directory
for the mailbox root) with a number of imap mail clients, including
Ximian Evolution on Linux, Apple Mail on MacOSX, and Squirrelmail
when I'm on the road. I only allow ssh from outside, so to use
Squirrelmail, I set up an ssh tunnel to my home mailserver. If
I'm on a Windows box, I'll download and install PuTTY, then use
that to create the ssh tunnel.
