I think they want someone who knows what they are doing. 
While a device driver does not require writing assembler, it does
require some unique knowledge. I sent this to a friend of mine who has
Linux device driver experience, but I would think that I lack the
experience even though I have extensive experience with multi-tasking
and assembly language programming including a Unix device driver.
