Not exactly.  Keep in mind that the one thing the employer really wants is assurance that the person being hired can do the job.  Experience counts more than a cert, but a cert is better than nothing.  If you're fresh out of college or changing your career path, adding a cert will not move you ahead of those with years of experience, but it will give you a leg up on someone else with the same credentials but no cert.
