Interesting article. I checked on my distro (Mandrake 8.2)
which I just installed on my laptop and hdparm is nowhere
to be found ( not in /sbin  nor locatable). There seem to
be webadmin cgi's though with (edit_hdparm , apply_hdparm).

I'll have to try those.
