unable to boot up in run level 5



X and gdm (or whatever it is for that version) ARE installed, right?  X
starts up OK-fine from the console?

(just asking.)

have you tried to bring the system up to init 5 manully (/sbin/init 5)?
Does that work, if not what does it say?
