help !! corrupt file system

my /usr/bin filesystem has been corrupted !!!

As near as I can tell it happened earlier today.  I had just logged off and 
when the kde login screen started to come up the system froze then rebooted.  
It went through the normal system check but when it came back up it used the 
gnome login screen instead, I also noticed a few other things like kmail 
would no longer launch URL's.  So I did some digging and found a bunch of 
corrupt files in /usr/bin.
 
Here are a few things I see, when I do 'ls -l' in the /usr/bin directory I 
always get this before the file list:
ls: drkonqi: Input/output error
ls: kcmshell: Input/output error

Now my question is this, do I have any options other than re-installing?
I tried (I know it was stupid) to copy one of the files (chooser) over from 
my other redhat box but that didn't work.  When I tried to move the bad one I 
got "mv: 'chooser' has unknown file type" and when I tried to rm it the 
system flat out refused saying: "rm: cannot unlink 'chooser':  Operation not 
permitted"  (this was all done as root)
