Can telnet port 80 but cannot ping!

Please do not enable telnet on your system. Some idiot will use
it to give you a black eye.

Red Hat generally has telnet disabled even if you do make the mistake
of installing it. Do a "man xinetd" to begin grappling with how to
turn on telnet if you absolutely must.

You may also need to rerun lokkit and punch a hole for telnet
if you selected one of the firewalling options.

Opening telnet and ftp are like dropping the soap in the wrong shower.

Get a look at ssh instead.
