Now's probably a good time to do my usual plug for Speakeasy.net. I've
had their service for almost two years now in the rt 128 area, and these
guys are great. My line has been down once due to Verizon having their
heads someplace that didn't allow them to see, and once when my line was
moved from the NY pop to the Boston pop about 5 or 6 months ago (a
schedule outage). They offer decent rates for excellent service, up to 8
(or 10, I forget which) static IPs for a residential connection, are more
than happy to do reverse dns lookup changes, encourage running "servers",
will provide secondary dns hosting for a small fee, and a 1-800 dialup for
anywhere in the country if you're on a trip. They also have the usuals of
multiple email addresses, web space, etc. I have yet to find service like
that in any provider, DSL or cable, short of paying for a T1 to my door.
Covad's situation seems to be up in the air, but things are still running
normally afaik, and Speakeasy claims they're dedicated to keeping their
customers running regardless of what pans out there (whatever that means).
 My $0.02.
